During these challenging times with the country consumed by the Corona Virus, there are still people who are needing to sell their homes, and those looking to buy asking the question; Can I book a building inspection during Corona Virus?  Below we’ve answered some frequently asked questions about Gold Coast Building Inspections business and our operations during the current pandemic.

Can I book a Building Inspection during Corona Virus?
Yes -We are Open!  And it’s still business as usual for our team – conducting building & pest inspections across the Gold Coast & Northern NSW.
Our state and federal governments have introduced necessary restrictions to stop the spread of the virus, but the property market continues to operate. We are continuing to monitor the Corona situation carefully, however we’re taking some extra precautions to ensure everyones safety until we’re given the ‘all clear’.
The government says as long as all recommended measures, such as social distancing and hygiene, are observed it is safe to proceed with inspections.

What steps are we taking to minimise the risk of residents contracting COVID-19?
By wearing appropriate safety equipment and limiting any unnecessary contact, we are reducing the risk of contracting COVID-19 for both residents and inspectors. It is particularly important that we are made aware of any residents who are self-isolating as this will enable us to further minimise any avoidable potential risks.

When we make the booking with the agent and/or vendor to conduct an inspection on your behalf, we will check that there is no one at the house currently in quarantine or self-isolation. If this is the situation, we will need to reschedule the inspection for a later date when occupants are not infectious or have been medically cleared to be in contact with others. Although these precautions may seem excessive, we believe they are important as part of our responsibility in taking care of our clients and each other, and would like to thank you for your understanding and assistance.

Can I still attend my building inspection during COVID-19?
As far as the building inspection is concerned, while at the moment it is safe to attend the pre-purchase building and pest inspection of the home you are buying, it is not necessary, as the inspection report you will receive is comprehensive and we are always available on the phone or via email to answer any questions you may have.
If you do wish to attend please only do so if you are confident you are not infectious. This applies to colds and flu as well as the COVID-19 virus. And of course, current health guidelines apply including avoiding shaking hands and other physical contact including touching surfaces such as countertops, door handles and railings in particular.

What is COVID-19?
COVID-19 is a novel coronavirus with symptoms including fever, cough and shortness of breath. Anyone experiencing emergency signs such as difficulty breathing, persistent pain or pressure in the chest, new confusion or bluish lips or face should immediately seek medical attention.

What is the risk of exposure to the coronavirus?
Older adults and people who have severe underlying chronic medical conditions such as heart or lung disease or diabetes may be at higher risk for developing more serious complications from COVID-19 illness. QLD Health urges monitoring your health and practice social distancing. Social distancing means staying out of crowded places, avoiding group gatherings and maintaining distance (at least 1.5 metres) from others whenever possible.

What preventative measures may be taken to reduce the risk of contracting and spreading COVID-19?
QLD Health recommends individuals take the following measures to protect themselves and others, so when carrying out a Building Inspection During Corona Virus we also recommend:

  • Wash your hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water aren’t available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitiser;
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands;
  • Practise respiratory hygiene, covering your mouth and nose with a bent elbow or a tissue when you cough or sneeze, disposing of the tissue immediately;
  • Practice social distancing by staying out of crowded places, avoiding group gatherings and maintaining distance (at least 1.5 metres) from others whenever possible;
  • Avoid close contact with anyone who is sick;
